Mei Lin

Principal Investigator · Professor of Material Systems

Mei Lin is Professor of Material Systems and founding director of Common Matter Laboratory. Her work connects soft materials, geometric mechanics, and computational fabrication.

Before joining the Institute for Transdisciplinary Research, she led research on adaptive structures at the Centre for Material Practice. She teaches design research methods and directs the institute’s shared fabrication observatory.

Her current work asks how matter can participate in sensing and decision-making without being reduced to a passive substrate for electronics.
